Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) makes sure hospitals, care homes, dental and GP surgeries, and all other care services in England provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care, and encourages them to make improvements where possible.

They do this by inspecting services and publishing the results on their website.

You can use the results to help you make better decisions about the care you, or someone you care for, receives.

Share your experience

CQC use what people tell them to understand the quality of care they get from services like care homes, care agencies, hospitals and GPs. It helps make care better for everybody.

CQC look at it alongside other information. For example, information from the service itself or what we found when CQC last visited them.

You can tell CQC about:

  • an experience of care – it can be good or bad
  • a concern about the service

CQC will need to know:

  • the name and location of the service
  • when you used the service (or worked there)
  • whether you’ve complained to the service or contacted other authorities
  • whether CQC can contact you about your experience. You can always give your feedback anonymously but it helps CQC take action if they can contact you for more information.

This is different from making a formal complaint. To make a formal complaint, you must contact the practice directly.
